As football season approaches, it’s the perfect time to look at some of the top recruits heading into the 2021 season. While the world of college football recruiting can be complicated and competitive, one way of breaking it down is to look at the top recruits by position.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the top recruits to watch by position:
Quarterback – Quinn Ewers, Southlake Carroll High School
Ewers is the top-ranked quarterback recruit in the country and is committed to Ohio State University. He has impressive arm talent and great pocket presence. He throws with accuracy and touch, making him one of the most exciting and sought-after recruits in the 2022 class.
Running back – Will Shipley, Weddington High School
Shipley is a versatile running back who can catch passes out of the backfield, pound between the tackles, and break big runs outside. He has tremendous balance and agility, making it tough for defenders to bring him down. Shipley is committed to Clemson University, where he will likely be a great addition to their already impressive offense.
Wide receiver – Luther Burden Jr., Cardinal Ritter College Prep
Burden is one of the top wide receiver recruits in the class of 2022. He has great size and speed and can make plays all over the field. He has excellent ball skills and can high-point the ball with ease. Right now, no one knows where Burden will end up, but he is certainly a player to watch.
Tight end – Jack Pugh, Hilliard Bradley High School
Pugh is a versatile tight end who can help in the passing and blocking game. He has good hands and can make plays downfield, but he’s also a strong blocker who can help teams in the running game. Pugh is committed to Wisconsin, where he could thrive in their pro-style offense.
Offensive line – J.C. Latham, IMG Academy
Latham is a massive offensive tackle who has great athleticism and quick feet for his size. He can move well in space and has excellent power in his blocks. He is committed to Alabama University, where he will continue his development and potentially become one of the best offensive linemen in the country.
Defensive line – Walter Nolen, St. Benedict at Auburndale High School
Nolen is one of the most exciting defensive line recruits in the class of 2022. He has great size and power and can be a game-changer in the running and passing game. He has an explosive first step and the ability to disrupt the pocket. Nolen is still uncommitted, but many top programs are vying for his services.
Linebacker – Jeremiah Trotter Jr., St. Joseph’s Prep
Trotter Jr. is a highly intelligent linebacker who can read offenses well and make great decisions on the fly. He is also a great tackler and has excellent technique. Trotter Jr. is committed to Clemson, where he will have the opportunity to play in one of the best defenses in the country.
Defensive back – Domani Jackson, Mater Dei High School
Jackson is one of the top defensive back recruits in the country. He has excellent ball skills and can take away half the field when he’s on the field. He also has great speed and can stick with opposing receivers. Jackson is committed to USC, where he will get the chance to play against some of the best receivers in the country.
These are only a few of the top recruits by position, and of course, things can always change as we move further into the recruiting cycle. But keeping an eye on these players during the upcoming season is definitely worth the effort. Who knows, they may end up being the difference makers on teams that we are all watching come playoffs!
